Psychological: Maryjka works for, and loves, Dmetro, her married patron. One day, Dmetro goes to town, and picks a fight with Jurek, a bum. Dmetro is injured fatally, and dies soon after. Maryjka is left to take care of the injured Jurek, that is, until the neighbors find out that she`s taking care of Dmetro`s killer.
Obyczajowy: Na skraju huculskiej wsi mieszka samotnie piekna dziewczyna Maryjka - przybleda, ktora kocha zonaty gospodarz Dmetro. Na jarmarku Dmetro wszczyna bojke z wloczega Jurem. Dmetro ginie w bojce, a sasiedzi zapowiadaja podejrzanemu o morderstwo sroga zemste. Tymczasem rannym Jurem opiekuje sie Maryjka. Wiesniacy dowiaduja sie, ze Jur jest w jej chacie; ida sie z nimi rozprawic. Aby ja ratowac, zakochany w niej glupi Jakub otwiera sluze. Fale porywaja dziecko Horpyny, wdowy po Dmetrze; Jur ratuje dziecko, po czym wraz z Maryjka opuszczaja wioske. Jeden z nielicznych przedwojennych polskich filmow, w ktorym realistycznie pokazano elementy lokalnego folkloru, wiejska rzeczywistosc i regionalne obyczaje (huculskie wesele, malomiasteczkowy jarmark).
