Wielki Ksiaze Konstanty zakochuje sie i poslubia mloda hrabianke Joanne Grudzinska, ktora jednak kocha majora Lukasinskiego. Major jest czlonkiem grupy przygotowujacej powstanie przeciwko carowi. Po jego stlumieniu, major pomimo tortur nie wydaje swych towarzyszy. Ksiezna wyjezdza z mezem do Rosji by stamtad sluzyc sprawie polskiej.

Great Count Konstanty falls in love with Joanna Grudzinska, and marries her. She loves major Walerian, who with other patriots is preparing an uprising against the Tsar. When it fails, he is tortured but doesn`t betray his companions. Joanna leaves Poland with her husband...
