The Pope's jubilee pilgrimage to the Holy Land, which lasted from March 21st -March 26th, 2000. The film describes a complex religious-political context of the lives of present-day habitants of the Holy Land -worshippers of three monotheistic religions talk about their respective faiths, traditions, and everyday lives. They also speak of their expectations in connection to the Papa visit. So the film, in principle, is basically a quick look of the pilgrimage to and from the standpoints of believers in Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. Throughout each place that the Pope visited -be it Egypt, Jordan, Israel, or the Palestinian Autonomous regions -the visit is grounded in the concrete sociopolitical reality, as seen from the viewpoint of ordinary habitants. What the film also does is show the background against which the visit is played out. This gives a unique glimpse at the magnitude of the political and religious tensions in the region and shows how difficult the pilgrimage turned out to be, as it often resembled a hike across a minefield.
